Coach Kevin Franklin is entering his 1st season with the East Coast Sox.

 

Coach Kevin Franklin has spent the past 12 years coaching and developing baseball players in Alabama. He currently serves as Head Coach of the Westminster Knights varsity baseball team in Birmingham, where he launched the school’s baseball program six years ago.

Starting with a group of middle and high school players—many of whom had never played baseball—Coach Franklin helped build the program into a competitive force. In just five years, Westminster produced its first NCAA Division II baseball signee and made the program’s first-ever trip to the AHSAA Sweet Sixteen. In addition to his work at Westminster, Coach Franklin has led travel baseball teams to two state titles, a World Seriesrunner-up finish, and the Greater Birmingham Baseball Association championship.

Franklin's love for the game began early, traveling across the country as a boy while watching his father coach his sister’s softball team to two World Series titles. After clutching the Area Championship and making the Elite 8 at Hueytown High School, Franklin was selected to Alabama’s East/West All-Star team.

From there, he earned a baseball scholarship to play at Jefferson State Community College under Butch Thompson, now Auburn’s head baseball coach, during Thompson’s first head coaching position. While at Jeff State, Franklin and his teammates won the program’s first and only JUCO State Championship and finished third in the JUCO World Series.

Coach Franklin has been married to his high school sweetheart, Amanda, for 26 years. They have two children: Kaylee, a student at Auburn University, and Davis, a high school junior who plays for his dad’s baseball team as well as the basketball team. The Franklins live in the Oak Mountain area of Birmingham, where Amanda owns an interior design and home staging business, and Kevin works as a Lean Manager for Brasfield & Gorrie, traveling throughout the country to coach teams on efficiency, productivity and operational excellence.

Outside of baseball, the Franklin family enjoys budget-savvy adventure travel across Europe and beyond.
