Coach Matt Seymour is returning to coach with the East Coast Sox for his 7th season.

 

Coach Seymour has been blessed to play and learn under four Hall of Fame coaches in his career.  Larry Andrews (Baker High), BR Johnson (Chattahoochee Valley JC), Tommy Thomas (Valdosta State University) and Lloyd Skoda (Faith Academy).

Coach Matt Seymour played high school baseball at Baker High School for ABCA Hall of Fame Coach Larry Andrews, while winning a 6A State Championship in 1990. While under the leadership of Coach Andrews, he decided that he would become a coach as well. He also taught him how to have confidence in himself and how to be an effective leader. In 1990, Coach Seymour played at Chattahoochee Valley Community college for ABCA Hall of Fame, Coach BR Johnson. Under Coach Johnson, Seymour learned the mental toughness and never quit attitude needed to be successful at this game.  While at CVCC, Seymour was All conference as a pitcher for the Pirates 1991 and 1992.

After Junior College, Seymour Played for the National Hall of Fame, Coach Tommy Thomas for the Valdosta State University Blazers. Coach Tommy Thomas was a leader that simply was a student of the game.

Faith Academy helped Coach Seymour understand game planning,  practice on field decision making. Seymour is very grateful to have played for these coaches.  Each coach challenged and taught him something different about the  game of baseball.  Coach Seymour feels that each one of these Coaches was put in his life for a reason.

After college, Seymour signed a free agent with the Zanesville Greys in the
Frontier Independent league.  In 1994, he set a league record with 1.71 ERA  in 74 innings. In 1995, He pitched in the Texas -Louisiana League with the Mobile Bay Sharks. He had a 2.34 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 73 innings. Here he set the Texas-Louisiana league most appearance record pitching in 48 games.

Coaching Career

Coach Seymour started his coaching Career in 1995, at his Alma Mater Baker High School under the leadership of Head Coach Larry Andrews. In 1997, he served as an assistant at UMS-Wright where his teams in 1997 and 1999 won State Championships. He served as an assistant at UMS-Wright for 9 years.  In 2007, He joined coach Llyod Skoda with the Faith Academy Rams. In 2008,  Faith Academy won the AISA State Championship.  God had a special plan for Coach Seymour to come to Faith Academy, and coach under Lloyd Skoda. He  believes it was God’s plan before becoming a head coach.  Coach Skoda served and  taught him many things spiritually and about the game of baseball.

Coach Seymour was named head Coach at Faith Academy in 2014. After 5 years under Coach Seymour;s  leadership, Faith Baseball’s record is 138-46. Faith Baseball has played in the finals in 2016, 2017 and 2018. In 2018 Coach Seymour and the Faith Baseball  won its first AHSAA State Championship in baseball, the first in school history. Seymour has been named 2016 and 2018 Coastal Coach of the Year, 5A Coach of the Year and USA Today’s 5A coach of the year in 2018.  His team also finished 2nd in the country. In 2021, his team made it back to Montgomery claiming a State title in class 6A. This championship gave him his 200th victory as a  head coach. As of 2024, his coaching record is 246-103. He attributes his success to great coaches and players.

Coach Seymour has coached with the East Coast Sox for 5 years.  He enjoys being around the great christian atmosphere and learning from its coaches and players. Coach Seymour has been married to his wife Lori Seymour for 27 years.  They have three children in Maddie Seymour(25), Jay(22), and Gracie(19).
