east coast sox scout - alabama SE coach

Coach Kevin Butler is enterning his 1st season with the Sox.

Kevin Butler is cureently in his third year of coaching at Hewitt-Trussville High School.  He coached five years at Clay-Chalkville High School and was a part of the coaching staff for the 2005 and 2006 state runner-up teams. He coached one year at Thompson High school in 2009.  He became a part of the staff at Pelham High School the following year and was a part of the coaching staff when they won the 2013 State Championship.  Coach Butler spent two years as an Assistant Principal at Vestavia Hills High School before returning to coaching in 2015.  He coached at Hoover High School and helped them win the 2017 State Championship and runner-up in 2021.  In 2022 he started teaching and coaching at Hewitt-Trussville HS in Trussville, AL.  That year Hewitt appeared in the State Championship game losing a three-game series.  He is still currently on the staff at Hewitt-Trussville High School.

Prior to coaching and teaching, Butler worked for Auburn University designing Outdoor Education curriculum and developing Environmental Science programs for the youth of Alabama.  He also instructed, designed and built high and low ropes course for the leadership programs at the Alabama 4-H Center.

Coach Butler is from Kimberly, Alabama.  He graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School and played baseball for 3 years. He went on to the University of Montevallo to earn a degree in Biology and completed Master degree programs at Lesley University (Cambridge, MA) and UAB.  He earned an Ed.S. from UAB as well.  He currently teaches Physics at Hewitt-Trussville HS.

Coach Butler is married to the former Debbie Keyes of Jackson, MS who teaches in the Clay-Chalkville Middle School.  They have two boys Daniel (15) and David (13) who are students at Hewitt Trussville.
